Alternatives to Spring Break

Temporary Housing for Alternative Spring Break Groups at RH

Refuge House, located in the Northwest Bronx, formerly a convent, is now a community center run by Fordham Bedford Children's Services. FBCS provides housing for groups and organizations that perform volunteer work with non-profit organizations throughout New York City.

In the past, groups that have stayed in Refuge House have volunteered with organizations such as POTS, Bronx International High School, GODs Love We Deliver, Momentum AIDS Project, and Missionaries of Clarity.

Groups that stay at Refuge House will have access to the third floor of the building. There are 12 bedrooms with double occupancy, a small kitchen, and two bathrooms. Also, they will have access to the kitchen on the first floor where they can prepare and cook meals. On the premises, there is a computer lab open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm.

FBCS requires that any group that stay at Refuge House make a suggested donation. The amount depends on the size of the group and length of stay. All donations should be made in a check payable to Fordham Bedford Children's Services and be given to the Program Coordinator upon arrival.

If you are interested in staying at Refuge House, you must submit an application to:
Liselle Perez, Program Coordinator. Once completed, you can e-mail it to lperez@fbcsnet.org or fax it to: (718) 563-7304. Please note that there has to be an approval and confirmation between the coordinator and the group leader in order to receive temporary housing on the suggested dates.
