Mission Statement:
-To empower people with an understanding in technology by providing IT training and computer access in low income or disadvantaged areas-
The Heiskell Enterprise Center for technology plays a vital role in bridging the digital divide in the Mid to Northwest Bronx. Our new state of the art computer lab with its 24 Pentium IV Dell workstations and Broadband Internet connection is open and available to the public. Also, the Center offers a curriculum of programs that include courses in Computer Fundamentals, Word Processing, Internet Navigation, Web Design, MS Office Professional Suite, A+ Hardware Technician and Website Development Fundamentals.
We are recruiting volunteers from the neighborhood that have computer and Internet knowledge to help us with the day to day activities of the computer lab i.e. to help us with the Open Computer lab and to act as Instructor Assistants for the Computer Application courses that we offer. We are also recruiting students from local colleges that are eligible for the Work-study program or that want to participate in our Computer Lab volunteering program.
The mission of the Heiskell Enterprise Center for Technology is to bridge the digital dividie that exist in low-income neignborhoods and to provide a safe learning environment for children and adults alike. The availability of the Heiskell Enterprise Center for Technology in our neighboorhood gives the community a chance to enhance their computer skills in order to make them marketable in the workforce and to enrich their lives. In the tradition set forth by the Fordham Bedford Housing Corporation and the Fordham Bedford Children's Services, the Heiskell Enterprise Center for Technology will continue to provide services to the Bronx Community and serve as a resource that they can tap into.
