English as a Second Language Program

Fordham Bedford Children’s Services offers a free English as a Second Language Program to the large immigrant population residing in our community. The program is designed to improve basic communication skills of students who have limited knowledge of the English language. FBCS has established 3 levels of English proficiency for the students: beginner, intermediate and advanced.  At each level, the students engage in appropriate classroom conversations and exercises that can be incorporated into their daily routines.

The ESL program is in session from October through May and is given every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Citizenship Program

The Citizenship Program offered by FBCS is a free, 15-week preparatory course given to community residents who are waiting for their Naturalization Examination. This program is designed to provide orientation for students who will take the oral and written English proficiency test. The Citizenship instructor teaches the 100 Civics and History questions that the INS interviewer can ask the students on the day of the exam.

The Citizenship Program is in session from October through May and is given every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
